Philippe Garrey
Philippe Garrey
At the southern end of the Mercurey appellation, in the town of Saint-Martin-sous-Montaigu, Philippe Garrey quietly makes some of the most profound wines in the region. For six generations, members of his family have been working the vines in this area. Philippe worked with his father until 2005, which is when his father retired and Philippe took full control. That same year he began using Biodynamic preparations and in 2011 he became the first producer in the Côte Chalonnaise to be certified Biodynamic. Philippe is dedicated to the health of his vines and soil and the purity of his fruit, which allows him to do very little in the cellar. He gently guides the wines to become what they want to be, which is usually shimmering examples of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Aligoté.
Philippe Garrey ‘Les Clous’ Bouzeron
A distinctive little jewel of a wine from .3HA of Aligote in one of the rare Burgundian Appellations not dedicated to Pinot Noir or Chardonnay. Stainless steel and ceramic are used to maintain freshness and add a bit of richness to this unique white burgundy.
Philippe Garrey ‘La Chagnée’ Mercurey Blanc
An elegant, complex Chardonnay from an Appellation producing 5X as much Pinot Noir as Chardonnay.
Philippe Garrey ‘Clos de Boilles’ Bourgogne Rouge
From a hectare of vines next to the family house. 20 percent whole clusters adds the perfect amount of structure and aromatics to this quite regal ‘house’ wine.
Philippe Garrey ‘Clos de Montaigu’ Mercurey 1er Cru
Vines on a gently sloping hillside. Concentrated Limestone higher up and deeper clay lower down along with a persistent breeze here give a concentrated wine with plenty of verve.
Philippe Garrey ‘La Chassiere’ Mercurey 1er Cru
This 1 HA plot of sandy limestone soils has been in the family for generations. It faces East and always makes a powerful, noble, aromatic red.
