Gounel-Lassalle
Gounel-Lassalle
Located in the 1er Cru Village of Chigny-les-Roses, Gounel-Lassalle is currently run by Arnaud Gounel and his wife Sophie. The viticultural story starts in 1870 with the Great Grandparents of Arnaud. They were farmers and winemakers in the 1er cru village of Ludes. By 1950, the story has moved villages to Chigny-les-Roses, where Arnaud’s Grandmother Hélène was a member of the cooperative. At that time, Gounel-Lassalle wines were beginning to be sold all over France, although the holdings and the production were still tiny. Arnaud’s father Pierre takes over in 1972 and begins to grow the domaine. He increases the vineyard area and production while still working with the cooperative. In 2002, it’s Arnaud’s turn to take over the family business. Reflecting on the long history of the family and old vines they are working - he begins to feel the need to free the family wines from the coop. They move in that direction and by 2018, they complete the first harvest as an RM producer. The journey has lasted over 150 years and has moved through four generations. Each one providing exactly what was necessary at the time. Now, the wines feel like they have taken their time to find just where they need to be and have arrived just as they should be at just the right time.
