Bodegas Chaves
Bodegas Chaves
At the westernmost end of the Celtic Atlantic corridor, in the lands of Galicia, José Chaves Chaves founded the Chaves winery in 1955.
In 1986, Chaves was one of the first to market wines covered by the “Vinos de la tierra” designation, guaranteeing the origin of Albariño del Salnés. Later, Chaves actively assisted in the creation of the recognized Rías Baixas Denomination of Origin - becoming the 2nd winery to register in the D.O.
Their first vineyard, Fornos, is located on a hillside between the municipalities of Ribadumia and Cambados, in the area of Fornos. Their ancestors called the dry and stony terrain “castel”, an optimal terroir for the cultivation of Albariño . In honor of this initiative, Castel de Fornos was born.
