Château de Rey

In the commune of Canet en Roussillon just a short jaunt from the Mediterranean Sea you'll find Château de Rey.  As fourth generation winemakers in this corner of the Roussillon, Cathy & Phillipe Sisqueille use sustainable farming methods to bring out the best in their vines.  The character in the bottle is a result of the ideal climate of breezes from the sea keeping freshness in the diverse wines offered here.  The personality of the domaine shines through not only in the unique flavor profiles of each wine produced, but also with the inventive and playful labels designed by Cathy. 

When visiting the winery, Château de Rey also offers a truly unique walking tour through the vineyards, which culminates with the opportunity to sit on an enormous bench on order to get a better view of the Mediterranean Sea just 5km away. When guests are finished walking through the vineyards, they have the opportunity to enjoy a glass in one of several foudres pictured above that have been converted into semi-private tasting rooms.  

There is a wine for every occasion here, from the gently sparkling Si’s Plau, to a savory Carignane, and of course dessert wines made with 2 different varieties of Muscat.  Château de Rey is a unique jewel of the Roussillon, whose wines are well worth discovering.

Château de Rey "Oh de Muscat" Côtes Catalanes Blanc

Fresh citrus, jasmine and verbena notes are complemented by a zippy and dry finish. The fruit and floral nuances in the Oh are understated, taking a backseat to freshness and minerality. A great wine for salty snacks, grilled asparagus and assorted vegetables, as well as yellow and green curry dishes.

 Château de Rey "Oh de Syrah" Côtes Catalanes

Boysenberry, licorice and cocoa notes on this suave and fun syrah from Château de Rey. Great with charcuterie, burgers from the grill, or a meatball sandwich. Syrah with a decidedly Mediterranean influence.

Château de Rey’s rendition of Txakolina, utilizing the traditional varieties of the Roussillon, make this light, spunky and spritzy white uniquely their own.  In Catalan Si’s Plau, or “please” is a playful invitation to indulge in festivity and fun!

A classic rendition of the Roussillon’s Rivesaltes Ambré. Notes of quince, chestnut, orange confit and spiced honey, with a beautiful amber hue on this vin doux naturel due to 36 months of oxidative aging. Great with foie gras, blue cheeses or pecan tart.
